Babies

Yesterday a package was in our mail box.   We all get very excited about packages.    Goodies,  books,  clothes,  all sorts of surprises.    Eric looks forward to parts which when we see Eric's name that is pretty much what is in the box.    This box yesterday was addressed to Eric.    So while talking to him over the phone and saying it was from Markham he became curious since he hadn't ordered anything from there.    So I opened it up while he was on the phone and began to laugh.    Inside was two tins of formula!!!!   After 10 years of having babies  (granted breastfed) and now finished having babies.   Having been on mailing lists for baby information,  magazines, and websites this is the first time we were ever sent anything in the mail and we haven't signed up for anything since moving back to Canada!!!!    I laughed so hard.    What are we going to do with this and I don't even know anyone with babies anymore.      I doubt this one wants it either.    Since it's lactose free!!!!   Can you bake with formula????   Better not say that too loud no one will want to come to our house for dinner.

Warm places on a rainy day.

This little guy was saying to me.   It may be wet and rainy outside but isn't it nice and dry and warm in side this barn.     Which it was.

Notions

When I have an idea, it goes from vague,  cloudy notion to 100,000 words in a heartbeat.

Pyscho Emu!!!!!

Very Very creepy.   The emu's eyes rolled back and then it yawned while I was taking photos.   Apparently emu's have translucent second eyelids that protect Emu's from the dust.   It's called a   nictitating membranes and most birds have it.     Creepy though and not the best photo but 365 days of animals,  they can't all be good.     So here's a bad day.    I'll go for cuteness tomorrow.

Silver Pheasant

The Silver Pheasant is originally from China.    Hardy birds that are attractive to look at and are known to have a fondness for peanuts!    They were written about in poetry and images used in art.
Here's a sample.
A FARM-HOUSE ON THE WEI RIVER

In the slant of the sun on the country-side,
Cattle and sheep trail home along the lane;
And a rugged old man in a thatch door
Leans on a staff and thinks of his son, the herdboy.
There are whirring pheasants? full wheat-ears,
Silk-worms asleep, pared mulberry-leaves.
And the farmers, returning with hoes on their shoulders,
Hail one another familiarly.
...No wonder I long for the simple life
And am sighing the old song, Oh, to go Back Again!

Horses in the Snow

Horses In The Snow

Their manes are a wintry white
Frosted with the glittering snow
There backs are dappled light
And shimmer with a frozen glow

Dark browns and golden tones
Contrast with the wonderland
From dark grays to deep roans
The muted colors of the land

Their manes and backs are white
Frosted with the falling snow
The horses dance through the light
Of the shining, shimmering snow

Snow..............

I woke up to snow.    Snow that continued all day and is still going as I type this.   That snow that when you shovel becomes an impossibly heavy load to move.   By 3pm it was about a foot and still coming down.   So I shoveled the driveway as I had slid down it on the way to school.    Though after it was done I looked up the beginning of the land at there had to be an inch already starting on it again.   Ugh......    This is when a purple cow or a pink elephant would come in handy for some colour in the drab winter colours of North America.

Muscovy Duck

A Muscovy Duck is native to Mexico and South America.     Since it has become domesticated we see all over now a days and has become a feral animal.    Hey Australia we do have some feral species!!!!
Probably because they don't mate for life.   They breed with up to 4 different ducks during the year.

How do you milk cow?

HOW DO YOU MILK A COW?    How do you milk a cow?   I wasn't in FFA.    This cow must think I'm crazy.   Up under it this way.   I'm sittin' here a pullin', but there ain't nothing comin' out.  Oh E I E I O...   How do you milk a cow?
Yeah I love it here in Tennesse,  But these farmers all make fun of me.   Can't haul much hay in a tiny sports car.   So I got myself a 4 wheel drive,  Learned to spotlight deer at night,  And I've got shearin' sheep right down to an art.

One thing's for sure,  I hat shovelin' manure,  It gets all over my overalls.   Them horses need shoein'  I hear Bessie mooin'.  So I thought maybe I'd ask you all.

HOW DO YOU MILK A COW?
How do you milk a cow?  I think it's safe to say  A man could get arrested for this in LA.  This heifer must be empty 'cause she ain't puttin out.   Oh E I E I O,  Tell me how do you milk a cow?

Tess - Redbone coonhound

This is our neighbours dog.   A redbone coonhound which you may have seen in the movie  "Where the red fern grows"   This breed has been around since the early 1900's.    They are excellent family dogs and watchdogs if you don't use them for hunting.     This one is known to go a little crazy when it smells cougars.   So if we hear it barking we know to watch out.

The Cattle Call

The cattle are prowlin', the coyotes are howlin' Way out where the doggies roam Where spurs are a jinglin' and the cowboy is singing His lonesome cattle call
He rides in the sun 'til his days work is done And he rounds up the cattle each fall Singing his cattle call.
For hours he would ride on the range far and wide When the night wind blows up and slow His heart is a feather in all kinds of weather He sings his cattle call
He's browned as a berry from ridin' the prairie And he sings with an old western drawl Singing his cattle call

Canadian Geese

“ Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst. – Henri Cartier-Bresson

I like this quote.   Makes a lot of sense.  Especially when I am reviewing and wanting to push to be better to be unique.   February is a month of growing and learning.

Reflecting

I think it might be time to stalk a dog park or two.   Or maybe find some sheep.   Horses and cows are pretty steady lately.

Sunlite Horse

Amazing how home was blanketed in fog.   I thought oh this place would be perfect for photos.   Only to discover it was sunlight and beautiful skies,  not a sign of fog anywhere.

Stop Motion

(YOU HAVE TO CLICK OPEN THIS TO SEE THE MOVIE)
It's hard to take a photo of how calm and relaxed this cat is around our kids.   So I decided to play with a stop motion technique.

Calf Noses

A baby calf is born, and under his mother's guidance grows happy and fat.

Trying to please two men and myself

My dad has always like short hair.   I get moments and I want to cut my hair.   Like today.   Like the cut..... the colour.....   Well it is very similar to the colour I was born with.   But every time I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror I get a shock.     Now my husband likes long hair.    And well.........      I don't know what I want!   Maybe not to see the wrinkles anymore and be 20 years younger.     So no animals today.    Only got out to get my hair cut and the cat was hiding.   So I'll be on it later.
