Attack of the Cattle

Driving down some back roads and come across some cattle in the bush.   So popped on my zoom lens and proceeded to sneak in to get some photos.   Now cattle usually aren't the friendly sort unless they are a 4-H cattle.    They are skittish at the best of times.   So I was completely shocked when they all (over 100) came at me like Dairy Cattle.    Then I started to curse I was 300 plus meters from the truck where the lens that I wanted  was.   So was a little disappointed that I didn't get the whole picture of all the cattle looking at me.   I was also very cautious keeping an eye out on these guys, as they kept advancing and didn't let up.  That I forgot to do a panoramic so you could have got a look at what I saw.     Was also wishing for my step ladder to get high up on them but they probably would have knocked me over.     So my question is where were they spending their winter to be so curious and use to people?

I have a thing for black calves.....

Early morning brekkie

Finding the sweet new growth of grass is more important then smiling pretty for the camera.   This time of year it is very hard for a horse to give you it's full attention.   New grass is like candy to a kid.

Wet Cow

The poor wet animals out today.    Though the rain makes the green start to come down in the lower part of Kamloops.    Up in the hills there is some snow still in places and the yellow of the old grass.     It will all change in the next few weeks I image.

Herding Dog

Though I think he was herding me more then anything else.    Granted he wasn't working.   He was just following me around while I was taking photos of the calves,   and hoping for a good cuddle or two.

Chickens

A farmer lived on a quiet rural highway. But, as time went by, the traffic slowly built up at an alarming rate. The traffic was so heavy and so fast that his chickens were being run over at a rate of three to six a day. So one day he called the sheriff's office and said, "You've got to do something about all of these people driving so fast and killing all of my chickens." "What do you want me to do?" asked the sheriff. "I don't care, just do something about those drivers!" So the next day he had the county workers go out and erect a sign that said: SLOW: SCHOOL CROSSING Three days later the farmer called the sheriff and said, "You've got to do something about these drivers. The 'school crossing' sign seems to make them go faster." So, again, the sheriff sends out the county workers and they put up a new sign: SLOW: CHILDREN AT PLAY And that really sped them up. So the farmer called and called and called everyday for three weeks. Finally, he asked the sheriff, "Your signs are doing no good. Is it all right for me to put up my own sign?" The sheriff told him, "Sure thing, put up your own sign." He was going to let the farmer do just about anything in order to have him stop calling. Well, the sheriff got no more calls from the farmer. Three weeks after the farmers last call, the sheriff decided to call him. "How's the problem with those drivers. Did you put up your sign?" "Oh, I sure did. And not one chicken has been killed since then. I've got to go. I'm very busy." And he hung up the phone. The sheriff thought to himself, "I'd better go to that farmer's house and look at that sign... There might be something there that WE could use to slow down drivers." So the sheriff drove out to the farmer's house, and he saw the sign. It was a whole sheet of plywood. And writte n in large yellow letters were the words: SLOW: NUDIST COLONY

Morning Cloak Butterfly

It is spring!!!   This is the first butterfly to emerges in the spring coming out of it's hibernating spots which can be under rocks or leaves.   It is the longest lived butterfly.   Living for 10 months.   So welcome spring.   I can see more and more green grass coming.

Deer

By total chance I was out taking photos of horses and they were starting to get flustered.   I turned to see what they were looking at and there were about 8 deer coming into the field.   I totally luck out because they came so close before they realized that I was there and fled.

Donkey

A newlywed farmer and his wife were visited by her mother, who immediately demanded an inspection of the place. The farmer had genuinely tried to be friendly to his new mother-in-law, hoping that it could be a friendly, non-antagonistic relationship. All to no avail though, as she kept nagging them at every opportunity, demanding changes, offering unwanted advice, and generally making life unbearable to the farmer and his new bride. While they were walking through the barn, during the forced inspection, the farmer's mule suddenly reared up and kicked the mother-in-law in the head, killing her instantly. It was a shock to all no matter their feelings toward her demanding ways. At the funeral service a few days later, the farmer stood near the casket and greeted folks as they walked by. The pastor noticed that whenever a woman would whisper something to the farmer, he would nod his head yes a nd say something. Whenever a man walked by and whispered to the farmer, however, he would shake his head no, and mumble a reply. Very curious as to this bizarre behavior, the pastor later asked the farmer what that was all about. The farmer replied, "The women would say, 'What a terrible tragedy' and I would nod my head and say, 'Yes, it was.' The men would then ask, 'Can I borrow that mule?' and I would shake my head and say, 'Can't. It's all booked up for a year.'"

Eagle

Now I realize that when you are a photographer you have to post your best photos.  And these are not my best.   It was almost 7:30pm,  no light left,  the ISO cranked way way too high,   so they are incredibly grainy and would print crap.    But I have been trying to get an eagle shot for months.    I spotted this young eagle sitting in a tree.   He was right in the worst spot (on a tight bend with no visibility to on coming cars)  so I had to drive a little farther to find a lane way.    By the time I walked back to a good place he had decided he needed to leave.   So this is the best I got before he took off and I had fully stopped walking.   And wildlife photographer would bash this and they are so right too.  It is technically crap!!!!   But I was so pumped  to at least get a small taste of this beautiful bird in the wilds of Barnhartvale.
